What is an Item Upgrader in Pokemon Go?

Rarely, the new benefits obtained will cost more than one perk slot to acquire In these instances the
upgrade item will replace the most expensive perks. The upgrader can also make other changes to the item, for example, changing the damage type of its weapon, or adding or removing a operative or unwieldy function. These changes are based on an item's ilvl. They may also require special materials, for instance the adamantine.
Success Rate
The upgrading of an item is dependent on the chance. Like any random system there is a chance that it won't work. There are a few ways to increase your chances of success. This includes the use of an Upgrade Pity, or the addition of extra materials to your upgrade.
An Upgrade Pity is an item that you can purchase from the smithing NPC in Lost Ark. It increases the chance of a successful upgrade by an amount. It's similar to the "luck bonus" that some items provide however it is more secure. It can be added to any weapon or armor, and can be used up to three times.
You can also add other materials to the upgrade to increase the chance of success. These are shown in a separate window, above the + button. There are a few limitations. The maximum amount of material you can add is shown directly above the + button.
Another way to increase the chance of a successful upgrade is by using the item known as Blacksmith Blessing or an upgraded version of it. This item is useful when you own an item of equipment that has reached the maximum level for its tier or is close to it. It allows you to upgrade that piece of gear to the next level without worrying about it breaking.
If an upgrade fails the upgrade will be reversed to its initial state. This is usually a downgrade, but could also be an upgrade. Save an upgrade until you reach the highest level for an item.
There are many items in the Kafra shop that can be used to boost the chances of an upgrade succeeding. For example, upgrading a piece of equipment with HD Oridecon or HD Elunium multiple times will give you a higher chance of success. The rate of success will be increased if you can increase the chance of getting a Double Mint by Shoe-Minting five times.
Failure Rate

The upgrade window will show a percentage indicator of your odds of success. This percentage is determined by the upgrade level of the item and the core type you have chosen.
You can also opt for a safeguard that will protect your product in the event of failure. The cost of this protection can vary but will always be lower than the cost of purchasing a new item. The safeguard can be used once per upgrade, and it is not a valid expiry date unless it is re-used.
