What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib, also known as a bassinet or co-sleeper, is a small baby cot that is attached to an adult bed. This allows your child to sleep right next to you in safety. This is a safe form of co-sleeping that doesn't increase your risk of SIDS like bedsharing. It also helps you bond with your new baby.
The cots usually have a side that is able to be lowered, so you can easily reach your newborn at night to feed and comforting. This is particularly helpful for mothers recovering from a c section. Some are also foldable or portable, so you can take them on trips and use them as a temporary sleep solution for infants who aren't quite ready to move to a larger cot.
Look for a crib with a breathable mattress, and an extra-safe cover that will keep your baby safe from staining. You may also want to purchase baby-safe items such as an infant blanket or a teether.
If you're looking for a long-term option, some cribs have conversion kits that let you convert them into a cot or a toddler bed at the time of need. This is great for extending their life and making the transition easier. Some models have a removable portion at the top that can be transformed into the bassinet. Other models can be used with either a regular adult bed or a high-rise one. This is a good choice for families that plan on frequently traveling or switching rooms at night. Be aware of the dimensions of your room to make sure you can fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with an incline which can be used to create an incline to accommodate babies with reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
They are known for their high-end baby products, English brand Joie has entered the world of cribs for bedside use with the Roomie Glide. This co-sleeper was designed to allow parents to bond and sleep side by side with their babies without sharing a single bed. It's loaded with features that make bonding between parents and baby safe, easy, and fun.
One of the key features is a smooth rocking motion that can be activated by the touch of a button. This gentle rhythm can help soothe your baby into sleep without disrupting their normal sleep patterns. This is perfect for older toddlers or babies who have difficulty settling down. It can also assist with digestive problems like colic and reflux.
The crib can also be attached to the side of the bed with an attachment strap and clip. This makes it extremely solid and secure, allowing you to enjoy a peaceful night's rest without having to worry about your little one sliding off into the middle of the room. The rounded shape of the cocoon has soft padding on the sides and double mesh windows at both ends. This allows airflow while keeping your baby safe.
The included mattress is comfortable and firm. It comes with a washable cover. The crib is easy to assemble and disassemble with the lightweight aluminum frame that makes it very portable. Anna discovered that the CoZee could be a safe, comfortable sleeping space for her baby. She loved that it didn't rock like other models, which meant it didn't wake her at night when she was trying to soothe her baby for feedings. She also liked that the side of the chair lowered so she didn't have to reach over her partner in order to carry the child out to feed them at night.
The CoZee is available in charcoal or oak and is a stylish option for any bedroom. It's more an expensive piece of furniture than many of the other cribs we've tried, which appear quite utilitarian. It's also relatively lightweight at just 11kg, and comes with a carry bag so you can take it with you on holiday or if you're moving house. The only additional items you'll need to buy are a waterproof cover and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and illustrations are easy to follow when you first open the box.

bedside cots uk crib options The Iora can be folded flat and comes with a
travel cot bedside bag so that it can be taken anywhere. Our mom testers found it easy to move from room to room and believed it was a great size for a bedside cot, not too big or too small. The large storage basket is ideal to store bedding and nappies.
This is a great option for parents who wish to sleep in a co-sleeping bed but don't want to share their bed. Or if one of the partners has mobility issues like arthritis or back pain. Our mom testers are thrilled with the fact that they can easily access their baby in the Iora, and that it has an option to tilt the bed upwards to help alleviate gas.
Our moms appreciate that the mattress follows NICE guidelines. These are to place an infant in a Moses basket or crib on its own without blankets, toys or pillows. They also say that the mattress is comfortable and firm for babies and is easy to find sheets for. It isn't as light as other smaller bedside cribs however and if you're looking for something lighter and more portable, look at other options on our list.
