Robot Vacuum Cleaner Best Buy Vacuums and Mop Combos
While robots won't be able to substitute for a conventional vacuum for picking up ground-in debris like metal screws and pieces of orzo pasta, they're great in sweeping dust, crumbs and hair from pets. The best models are equipped with intelligent navigation systems, which assists them in avoiding cords, toys, and other obstacles in the household.
1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The iRobot Roomba i3+ is a great robot vacuum that has many smart features that make it easier to maintain. The automatic bin emptying feature is among the best features we've ever seen in a robot vacuum. It's great on carpets as well as hard floors. The app guides you through the entire process. It is also easy to use and set up. Another notable feature is the ability to return to where it left off in our tests--it did this for 77 minutes in one cleaning before running out of battery.
Unlike some of the other robovacs that we test, the i3+ EVO has a self-emptying bin that dumps debris into an external dirt compartment on the base of its charging when it's full. The i3+ EVO is able to prevent overfilling thanks to a self-emptying container. However it must be manually emptied at the end of each cleaning session. The i3+ EVO's built-in dust bin holds 2.4L of debris, which is more than enough to get it through four or five cleaning sessions before needing to replace it.
This model, like the i7, utilizes state-of-the-art floor-tracking sensors to produce maps. It also lets you navigate through neat rows. However the i3+ EVO only stores a single map while the i7 is able to store multiple maps. The i7 also has the ability to make use of its map to create no-go zones and virtual barriers, but the i3+ EVO is not able to do this.
While the i3+ EVO is more effective in removing dirt and debris from surfaces than the other robovacs we looked at, it's not the best for cleaning corners and edges. It's also a bit less gentle on furniture, despite being surprisingly quiet. It pushed chairs away from walls and caused some collisions with the sides of our test bed, and also was stuck to cords and toys during testing.
2. Black & Decker Pro Q5
The Q5 Pro is an excellent choice, whether you are expanding your robot vacuum collection or just starting out. This robot does an excellent job cleaning bare floors and its avoidance technology helps it steer clear of furniture legs and other obstacles. It also does well on carpets and gets an excellent score in our tests on navigation. The only snag is that it's louder than other models we test and it doesn't do as well in our owner satisfaction or predicted reliability tests.
The Q5 Pro comes with a large dust bin that is 770ml, which means that you won't need to empty it as often as other 2-in-1 robots. The Q5 Pro's 240 minute running time is also generous when in comparison to other 2-in-1 robots that we tested. If the battery is low, it returns automatically to its dock, where it recharges and resumes cleaning where it left off. You can manage the Q5 Pro via the app and also use voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.
This is the first robot we've seen that has 3D mapping. This along with other advances has helped it perform exceptionally well in our tests for vacuuming and mopping tests. It allows you to schedule cleanings, set no-go zones and see the battery's condition, among other things. The app is easy to use, however it does not support Apple HomeKit. The feature is scheduled to be added in 2025. As of the beginning of November, Apple has updated a footnote on its website to indicate that the feature will be delayed until 2025. Several other robots don't work with HomeKit However, many of them work with Siri Shortcuts.
