1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The iRobot Roomba i3+ is a fantastic robot vacuum that has several smart features that make it easier to maintain. Its automatic bin emptying is one of the most efficient features we've encountered in the form of a robot and it is compatible with both hard floors and carpets. It's also simple to install and use and the app will guide you step-by-step through the procedure. Its ability to restart where it left off during our tests is an additional impressive feature. It did this for 77 minutes in one cleaning, before the battery was exhausted.
In contrast to other robovacs we evaluated, the i3+ EVO features a self-emptying bin that dumps debris into an external dirt compartment on its charging base when it's full. The i3+ EVO can be prevented from overfilling with a self-emptying bin. However it still needs to be manually empty at the end of each cleaning session. The i3+ EVO's inner dust bin can hold 2.4L of debris and is more than enough to get it through several cleaning sessions before needing to replace it.
Like the i7, this model also uses the latest floor sensors to create maps and navigate in neat rows. The i3+ EVO can only keep one map, whereas the i7 is able to store multiple. The i7's map is used to create virtual barriers and no-go zones, but not the i3+ EVO.
The i3+ EVO does a better job of picking up surface debris in comparison to other robovacs we've looked at, but it's not the
best robot vacuum in cleaning edges and corners. It's also a bit less gentle on furniture, despite being fairly quiet. It moved chairs away from walls and caused some collisions with the sides of our test bed, and got stuck on cords and toys while testing.
2. Black & Decker Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro is an excellent option, whether you're expanding your robot vacuum collection or are just beginning to get started. It packs a lot of power, smart navigation and a user-friendly automation into a sleek design at an affordable price. It's the most affordable model for the money on the market currently and even beats other Roborock models which are more expensive in many ways.
This robot is fantastic in cleaning floors that are not clean, and its avoidance tech helps it steer away from furniture legs and other obstacles. It also excels on carpets and gets a high score for our tests of navigation. The only drawback is that it's louder than other models we test and doesn't perform similarly in our user satisfaction and predicted reliability assessments.
The Q5 Pro has a very large 770ml dust bin that means you don't have to empty it as frequently as some other 2-in-1 robots. Its 240-minute runtime is also very generous compared to others we've tested. If the battery is depleted, it returns to its dock and recharges, before starting cleaning where it stopped. You can manage the Q5 Pro using the app or voice commands with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
This is one of the first robots we've seen to incorporate 3D mapping. That, combined with some other innovations, helps it perform exceptionally well in our vacuuming and mopping tests. You can schedule cleanings and set up no-go zones. You can also view the battery's status. The app is simple to use, however it doesn't support Apple HomeKit. The feature is scheduled to be added in 2025. Apple updated its footnote on its website in the beginning of November to reflect that this feature has been delayed until 2025. A few other robots aren't compatible with HomeKit However, many of them work with Siri Shortcuts.
