The Best Robot Hoover

Be sure to examine the brushes of your robot for tangled hair and large debris and clean them as needed. Some models can also automatically empty their onboard dustbin into a larger bin at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have test. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best automatic vacuum and mop robotic hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of rooms and floors with different flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the boxes This mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our tests. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuums that mop in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or at night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and a little more cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dry mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection but this was not reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its automatic vacuum and mop robot has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Additionally, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or set up the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app also provides access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

2960532754_D2iweLWl_214bec245d8afac8daa30132977bd535d7af4dd5.jpgThe Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we have tested. It also has an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
