For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.
Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works while you are at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning robot mop and vacuum mop mops.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app also grants access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuum that mops vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily.
