The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors They are also adept at cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for one that is wet in just a few minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the task of cleaning a whole home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes This mop and robot mop vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's loud that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features to help you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the automatic vacuum and mop robot works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they are.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Also, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app also provides access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
