Robots that vacuum and clean offer the convenience of cleaning both dry debris and wet messes in one session, without having to switch between devices. They also can save storage space compared to having two separate units, especially in smaller living spaces.

A good combination bot will offer excellent navigation and obstacle avoidance. Find models that automatically empty their bin and refill their water tank, and wash their mopping pads from an appropriate dock.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It has plenty to offer for its relatively modest price, and it's one of the easiest robots we've tested to set up. Unpacking the S1 Pro is simple, and a quick-start guide will have you running with a clean, complete dust bag, floor solution for hard floors and water tank in a matter of minutes.

The S1 Pro is a powerful small machine that can cleans up a mess and vacuums well too. The mops spin at high speeds and apply 2.2 pounds (1kg) of force, which makes short work of pet hair, dirt, and dried sticky spills. The vacuum comes with four power modes, a range of brushes and attachments, and an intuitive app that lets you choose the type of cleaning you'd like for each room.

You can, for example request the robot to clean the kitchen and the living room thoroughly but leave the spare bedroom alone. The S1 Pro has excellent front collision sensors and smart navigation technology. It is able to detect small obstacles that other models cannot. Its only drawback is that it can crash into walls and objects at a high speed, but an instant glance at the cleaning history in the app will tell you exactly what it's doing as well as where it's heading and what obstacles it's run into or avoided.

The docking station comes with an LCD display that displays the time when maintenance is required, such as emptying debris and cleaning the dirty water tank. It's also capable of mixing detergent automatically into the water tank, by using a 600ml bottle filled with the eufy's solution.

Both the S1 Pro mop and vacuum come with a long-running time. The mop can operate for 184 minutes in Quiet Mode, and the vacuum can run for 136 minutes in normal mode, prior to needing to recharge or returning back to the base. And you can see the complete cleaning details within the app, which is intuitively laid out and is easy to comprehend however we would like to be able to differentiate between a vacuum only or mop and vacuum clean when looking at a clean area in the cleaning history.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the most recent version of the company's top robot vacuum and mop. The model this year has two agitators built into its mopping pad. This improves the cleaning capabilities of carpets with this model. The S8 Pro Ultra has an improved suction capacity that enables it to remove smaller hairs as well as other debris other robotic cleaners may miss.

The Roborock model, like the other two I tried is equipped with infrared and 3D obstacle avoidance technology to help it get around obstacles like furniture, walls and other obstacles. But the S8 Pro Ultra takes things an extra step by incorporating a dual camera that can detect objects and decide whether they're an object that is a wall or a different surface. It can then automatically change its path and clean them without missing a beat.

It's the most expensive model I've tested, but it also has the most features. Its sleek and angular design is striking, and it only has three physical buttons. The power button, which resumes the cleaning mop button, which doubles up as a child-lock, and a home-button to send the robot to its dock. Lifting the hinged lid, you will find a 350ml dust bin and 200ml water tank. The water tank self-empties and the bin auto-refilling.

The only downside I found to this model was that the VibraRise mop pads mount is not removable. Although you can change the mopping cloth (if needed) however, it's a hassle to take off the mount itself for manual washing. I've observed that any soft carpet that the robot passes will be in contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener system on the mount, and that can cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra is equipped with a variety of intelligent features including support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa. You can manage and set up these via the Roborock app which is also the home of its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app lets you schedule cleanings and monitor the battery's lifespan. You'll need to go through a series of steps to activate voice control on this model. It's a shame considering the performance otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

The Dreame X40 robot vacuum and mop is a leader in the industry with innovative features, superior suction power and cutting-edge mopping capabilities. Its intelligent design allows for customized and efficient cleaning while reducing time.

The X40 robot vacuum cleaner is the first to offer 12,000 Pascals cleaning power. It is among the most powerful alternatives available. This powerful vacuum can clear up pet hair dust, crumbs and any other dry debris. It has a mop of high quality that cleans hard floors without using a pad. The X40 is also very quiet when in operation with only occasional bursts during modes changes or robot vacuum cleaners best self-maintenance.

Another notable feature is the X40's extendable and liftable side brushes, which allows it to get into difficult-to-access corners as well as clean furniture, such as tables and chairs' legs. The robot can also reach under furniture with low profile which makes it an ideal option for smaller apartments or condos. The side brush automatically tilts down when it spots wet spots. This is a great feature that enables the X40 to avoid causing damage to floors through repeated back-and-forth movements.

Contrary to other robots which only focus on one thing, the X40 can do both vacuuming and mopping simultaneously or individually. It can also be programmed to avoid areas with carpets and mop only hard floors or vice versa. It can be controlled via the Dreame App or Alexa, Siri, or Google Home to ensure smooth voice-controlled operations.

The app is intuitive and user-friendly and the X40's intelligent features are easy to set up. Users can program the X40 for cleaning at specific times. It is also possible to alter suction power, change modes, view floor plans and maps and manage mopping setting. The X40 can also monitor its progress and notify you when it's finished.

The X40 is easy-to-maintain and offers many convenient features, making it a great choice for busy families. The docking station automatically cleans the dustbin and the mop pads and refill them with fresh cleaning solution and water. It can also detect when the mop pad is overflowing and notify you when it overflows, reducing the need for manual maintenance.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra robot is one of the most expensive models available on the market. However, it has many features that make it stand out. The mops come with a brand new feature called Smart DuoScrub that uses two high-speed mops to clean floors more thoroughly than the traditional method, and it has the highest suction power of 7,000Pa. This is much higher than that of the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni, and it can clean pet hair and other small dirt particles in addition to removing spills and wet spots.

The mop is cleaned and dried at the base station each time they are used. This is beneficial as it keeps mould and unpleasant odours that can build up in the storage. It also makes the mop system more efficient. This is a system has yet to be seen on other robot vacuums and mop models and it could be a great method to keep your home cleaner for longer.

There's a plethora of settings available which include the ability to schedule cleaning robot mop and vacuum times and alter a variety of preferences. These can be set via the app or there are buttons on the unit itself. The app is simple to use and provides a number of options to customize your cleaning routine. It also comes with many functions that are not available on other robots, for instance the Clean Genius Mode, which automatically increases suction when it detects dust particles.

The L20 Ultra is also one of the most fashionable robots we've seen on market, with metallic and white design that looks classy and sophisticated. It's a bit heavier than the other two-in-one robots on this list, at 4kg but it's not too heavy, and it feels robust and well built. Mopping is well designed, and the double rotating mop is a great choice for hard floors or in corners. They can also extend to 2mm of baseboards thanks to the MopExtend feature which is a nice feature.
