Some models can also self-empty the dust bin on board and then deposit it in a larger bin located at the base. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like furniture legs. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and works while you are at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it will learn your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different flooring types including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears much like a Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robot cleaner with mop automatic vacuum and mop/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they are.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have lot furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.1533854584_eQGrfycV_399523147278358c41f1fb0b0c91eee1771c65e3.jpg
